Holidays: a trip to Palau

Situated on the North Eastern coast of Sardinia, just in front of the island of La Maddalena, the village of Palau is very crowded in the summer.

In the ancient times its economy was based mainly on agriculture and cattle farming, but it has been transformed by its nearness to La Maddalena and the navy base. Now Palau is a well known tourist resort place.

Very near to Palau we find Porto Rafael, a sophisticated village on the edge of Punta Sardegna.

Things to see in Palau are the archaeological monuments “Li Mizzani” and “S’Aiacciu”. Both are buildings dating back to the nuragic period.

There are also some temples and a military fortress (Monte Altura). In Palau it is also possible to visit the Ethnographical museum and see the old instruments of the first inhabitants of the territory.

Among the religious places to see there is the church, with beautiful windows, made by Marino Sergiusti and Odo Tinteri.

Some km far from Palau there is the Capo d’Orso, well known for the bear-shaped rock, on a 120 mt granite hill, modeled by wind and water.
